Baby Majken, Surrounded by Love
I am always so honored to be invited into a family’s home, especially when they are still reeling from the life changing events of adding a new baby to the family. I never expect anything more than chaos and exhaustion (that was my reality!!) and am always impressed by the parents who provide calm, order, and serenity to new babies and newly-made, older siblings. This family was serene. They brilliantly gave space for their older child to be just who that child is, and share energy and time in a way that didn’t make Baby the only star in the house. And what a star that baby is! So precious, so sweet, so sparkling. What a treat to spend a couple of hours with them. As a LGBTQ mama myself, I always feel an extra special kinship with parents in my community. There are high expectations on us as parents, as each of our families unintentionally represents, to those they know or to those who simply observe from a distance, what kind of parents LGBTQ people are. It is a heavy burden at times, and these mamas make us all look good!! Welcome to the world, little one!
